Collection: Surface Studies

These 6" x 6" original alcohol ink paintings are part of an ongoing series of surface experiments exploring how alcohol ink behaves on different artist panels. Each panel offered a different surface—from ultra-smooth to finely textured to almost watercolor-like—creating subtle variations in how the ink flowed, blended, settled, and dried.

The resulting paintings became studies in color, texture, movement, and organic form. Some developed into vibrant, rosette-like blooms, while others suggest frost, filtered light, shifting horizons, or other impressions that emerged naturally through the process.

Because the panels are thinner than traditional canvases and don't include built-in hanging hardware, each piece is presented in a black Renewal Core eco frame, giving the small artwork a finished, ready-to-display presentation.

Each 6" x 6" painting is an original one-of-a-kind work. The Surface Studies collection is a glimpse into the experimentation behind my larger paintings—and a celebration of the unexpected results that happen when I give the materials room to respond.
